I think that Columbus is a villain! Yeah he discovered it but he wasn't the first.

Interesting topic!
I say . . .
. . . Columbus was a product of his time. People living in Europe at that time were raised to think that anyone who lived the way the Indians did was not as human as they were. We now know this belief is wrong. But back then, Europeans thought that if you were a proper human being you had to live in a city or on a farm, be a Christian, know how to use guns, speak European languages, wear European clothes and look like Europeans. The Indians didn't do any of those things. Actually, they had cities and farms, but Columbus and his men didn't really recognize them for what they were.
Anyway, Columbus & his sailors were completely ignorant of the Indians' lifestyle, and thought it was perfectly okay to treat them as inferior people. Of course they were wrong. We know that now. But we have the advantage of being brought up by our parents and schools to understand that it takes all kind of different people to build a world. Columbus thought he was doing not only what his king & queen told him to do, but what God told him to do as well! So, he really thought he was doing the right thing. Unfortunately, he was making some pretty bad assumptions.
Colombus is a villain because he didn't "discover" the New World, the Indians did! All he did was that he made it known as the New World and that's it. It's not fair because he just took advantage of the Indians and he gets his own Holiday but the Indians don't! Ugh! So unfair!
